Survey Results - And Vote For Your Best Omiya J1 Goal!
The latest GGOA survey has now finished and over the last few days Squirrels fans have had the chance to vote on the subject of who they feel is responsible for the team's bad results this season. The initial pattern of votes cast suggested that most supporters felt that the players themselves were to blame, but over the last few days more and more visitors to the site have pointed the finger at current coach and former chief scout Satoru Sakuma, who has so far failed to improve the team's results in any consistent manner.
It is perhaps worth reflecting upon the fact that Sakuma-era Omiya have won eight points in nine J1 fixtures, while predecessor Robert Verbeek led a team that picked up sixteen points from eighteen league games - in fact, an absolutely identical rate. Nevertheless, Ardija fans are absolutely divided in their view as to where the responsibility lies and the final tally in the GGOA survey is that the players and Sakuma each received fifty per cent of the vote:
Who do you blame for Omiya’s bad results in 2007?
1. = The Players (50%)
1. = Satoru Sakuma (50%)
3. Robert Verbeek (0%)
Chikara Fujimoto celebrates his 2005 goal against Kashiwa Reysol
But the new survey acknowledges Kota Yoshihara's achievement in scoring the Mighty Squirrels' 100th goal in J1 against Yokohama F Marinos on Saturday. GGOA have been searching through the video archives on the Js Goal website and identified clips of eight Omiya goals, from which fans are asked to choose their favourite. There are three goals from 2005 - Takuro Nishmura's run and shot against Oita Trinita, Satoshi Yokoyama's stunning volley at Shimizu S-Pulse and Chikara Fujimoto's cheeky chip in the vital end-of-season match at Kashiwa Reysol.
2006 features a trio from Player of the Year Daigo Kobayashi: his late free kick to beat FC Tokyo, the long-range shot at Marinos and a set-up and angled drive against Albirex Niigata. Highlights from this season are the shot from Denis Marques to get a draw at home to Kashiwa and Hiroshi Morita's finish from Leandro's superb assist in the derby win over Urawa Reds.
