The votes have been counted and verified, and GGOA is now in a position to reveal the results of the latest readers' survey. Visitors to the site were asked last week to make a straightforward prediction as to whether or not Omiya Ardija will be relegated at the end of this, the club's tensest and most nerve-wracking season in J1 so far. With ten games to go, the Squirrels find themselves in the relegation play-off place, four points behind Oita Trinita and ahead of Ventforet Kofu only on goal difference.
The voting over the past few days has swung dramatically in different directions, with both sides taking the lead only to lose it shortly afterwards. Finally, however, GGOA can announces that by a matter of just a few percent, Omiya supporters expressed the view that Satoru Sakuma's team will win the battle against the drop and will therefore avoid having to play J2 football in their revamped Omiya Koen stadium next season. The results in full are as follows:
Q. Will Omiya stay in J1 next season?
1. Yes, it's J1 in 2008 (56%) 2. No... relegation and J2 in 2008 (44%)
And today GGOA introduces a new topic for fans to consider and vote on. Ardija under Sakuma and his predecessor Robert Verbeek have found goalscoring difficult all season and at the moment the team's top scorer in J-League matches is Kota Yoshihara with a less-than-impressive total of four. But who will finish the year as the Squirrels' number one goalgetter?
Will ex-international Yoshihara stay in front of his team-mates? Perhaps new signing Denis Marques will continue the good impressive displays that have seen him score twice and register two assists in six games since joining the club. Could in-form Hiroshi Morita or even Manabu Wakabayashi take the crown? And what about last year's king, Daigo Kobayashi? Who will score the goals that will keep the Mighty Squirrels in Japan's top division? Whatever your opinion, scroll down to the bottom of the page and vote now!
