The Yahoo Australia website are still reporting that John Aloisi, the Australian international forward recently connected in the Japanese media to Omiya Ardija - remains a transfer target for top A-League outfit Sydney FC. An article at the end of last week read as follows:
"Sydney FC coach Branko Culina says the club remain hopeful of snaring the prized signature of Socceroos World Cup hero John Aloisi as their marquee player this season. It was reported that Aloisi, whose contract with Spanish club Alaves ended last month, wouldn't return to Australia to play after rejecting his only formal offer from an A-League club of AUS$300,000 a season made by the Queensland Roar.
"Speaking at Sydney FC's new training base at Macquarie University in Sydney's west, Culina says the hunt for a marquee player has taken longer than he was expecting - but that Aloisi is still very much in the frame to fill the role. 'We would have liked to have had it resolved by now but we've hit a few snags along the way, missing out on Phillip Cocu and Robbie Fowler, but we haven't given up,' Culina said.
"'John would do a fantastic job for any club he'd join and it's something that is ongoing and if John is still keen to talk to us then I'm sure we'll talk to him. The stakeholders and the club are very keen to get a marquee player and that would not only be good for us but good for the league.'"
