The Squirrels played their first serious practice match of the current training camp on Thursday, with the designated first team lining up in a 4-4-2 formation. In the absence of Leandro, the defence consisted of Takuro Nishimura, Yosuke Kataoka, Daisuke Tomita and Yasuhiro Hato. The midfield quartet were Daigo Kobayashi, Yoshiyuki Kobayashi, Masato Saito and Chikara Fujimoto, while Kota Yoshihara and Manabu Wakabayashi played the striker roles. Current trialist Takashi Hirano turned out for the opposition, along with Hiroshi Morita and returning long-term injury victim Naoto Sakurai.

Sakurai, whose name appeared on an Omiya teamsheet for this first time this season as an unused substitute against Gamba Osaka, commented that he was desperate for the J1 schedule to start again, so as to have the opportunity to play and score goals. Meanwhile fellow forward Kota Yoshihara spoke of the "crisis atmosphere" surrounding the first team and their inability to score. "If we don't get crosses into the box, there won't be many opportunities to score," observed the former Gamba Osaka man wisely, "and if that situation continues, the anger and crisis atmosphere amongst the players will get worse."
