With no sign yet of any confirmed new members being added to Robert Verbeek's first team squad, the current batch of Omiya Ardija players reconvened at the club's Shiki training ground on Sunday. In very wet conditions, together they participated in an hour of running and weight-training as a warm up prior to travelling to their summer camp in Gunma prefecture on Monday.
There was of course no sign of rumoured transfer targets Denis Marques or Norwegian star striker Steffen Iversen - and indeed, with defender Leandro back in Brazil recovering from injury and the unsuccessful strike duo of Enilton and Salles having left the club, it was a 100% Japanese group of players that began the work towards the re-commencement of this year's J1 campaign on 11th August. And with the squad and coaching staff heading off for Gunma, as OF has indicated two friendly matches have been confirmed for next weekend. A Squirrels XI will take on Tsukuba University on Saturday 21st and Toyo University on Sunday 22nd.
