As per Omiya Fan's earlier comment, the official website of Brazilian club Atletico Paranaense are confirming that their striker Denis Marques has agreed a deal to join Omiya Ardija. With a full name of Denis Marques do Nascimento, the player is 26, is 183cm tall and 73kg. He has been with Atletico since 2004, having previously spent time at Al-Kuwait Sports Club and at Mogi Mirim in his native country, where he began his pro career in 2002. The highlight of Denis' career with the club is a runners-up medal in the 2005 Copa Libertadores.
In recent seasons Atletico have had strong connections with Japan, having provided Marcao to Kawasaki Frontale and Alex Mineiro to Kashima Antlers. As far as Omiya are concerned, however, it is clear that Denis Marques is a cut above the quality of his recently-departed compatriot Salles as a goalscorer. Question marks will also continue to hang over the future in Japan of Enilton, who thus far has recorded a solitary goal in the Nabisco Cup - and who in many ways exemplifies the Squirrels' failures in front of goal this season.
