As Steve has mentioned in the Comments section on this page, Nikkan Sports are reporting that ex-Germany international Pierre Littbarski as the front-runner in the race to replace Toshiya Miura as Squirrels coach when his contract expires at the end of the season. Formerly at Yokohama FC, Littbarski has been working most recently at Sydney FC in the A-League, but left in the spring despite having led the club to the inaugural title. Some fans were nevertheless unhappy that his side played dull and unimaginative football.
There was talk earlier in the year that he might become involved in some capacity at JEF United, and indeed it has always seemed possible that the former Koln winger, who is married to a Japanese woman, would return to work in Japan. Rumours continue to circulate that Miura is meanwhile being lined up to move to J2 outfit Consadole Sapporo.
