Omiya Ardija have released the squad numbers to be used during the 2006 season - thereby providing the first potential clues for how the team might line up when the J1 campaign kicks off at the beginning of March. Although there are obvious exceptions to the idea of using as first choices those players numbered 1 to 11, such as goalkeeper Hiroki Aratani being number 20, it is interesting above all to note that the back four consists of players who were with the club last season and that controversial new signing Yukio Tsuchiya is given instead number 17. The same applies to Tsuchiya's former team-mate at Kashiwa, Yasuhiro Hato, at number 22.
The midfield, on the other hand, has a very different look to it, with former Vissel Kobe man Naoya Saeki slotting in alongside Jun Marques Davidson in the defensive midfield roles and new star Daigo Kobayashi coming in for Tatsunori Hisanaga on the right-hand side. Chikara Fujimoto as expected retains the number eleven, while up front it's not surprising to see starting places potentially being awarded to the two key signings, Kota Yoshihara and Saul Martinez.
