Following the arrival at the club of of new coach Jang Wae-Ryong, the signing by Ardija of Mato Neretljak from Suwon Samsung Bluewings is being reported in the Korean press and on the Yomiuri website as a done deal. The general consensus is that Ardija must have paid a considerable sum to land the 29-year-old, as Neretljak is thought to have been aiming for a return to Europe in order to boost his chances of playing for Croatia.
Meanwhile, 12th Warrior at bigsoccer.com has kindly translated some Korean reports on Jang's move to Omiya, with direct quotes as follows:
"I know that I will have to survive in Japan, whether it's for three months or six months, to have my skills as a manager tested before the 2012 London Olympics... In the past two years, I have received offers from four J-League teams. I got the offer from Omiya after the last K-league game with Suwon [on 9th November] and I informed them that I would accept about a week ago."
"Omiya offered a two-year contract but I couldn't commit myself because I want to be the manager for the 2012 Olympic team.... When I coached in Japan before, my teams improved but I wasn't satisfied because I was only an interim coach. This time, I want to work with the team from the start to develop it. My first goal is to boost the team within the top ten and by 2011, I want to make the team as good as Urawa Reds."
