While Omiya Ardija busy themselves with appointing a new coach the peak of whose experience is an eighth-place finish in J2, it emerges that legendary former Squirrels boss Pim Verbeek has taken charge of the Australian national team. Verbeek coached Omiya into the J-League and was essentially responsible for transforming the club from NTT Kanto into a professional outfit. After leaving Japan, the Dutchman has worked most notably as assistant coach to Dick Advocaat at Borussia Monchengladbach, before moving into international management with the UAE and South Korea.
